How to Apply

To Apply for the scholarship please complete the following requirements:

Individual Applicants:

1) Email a document (.pdf, Word, or Text file) to givebacktogo@gmail.com describing in 350 words or less WHY this scholarship would help you and what you would do because of it. The applicant MUST be the person applying to RRP and writing the essays themselves. Others (Owners, family, friends CANNOT apply for a rider.)

OR

You can opt to send us a YouTube link (private or public) to a video "interview" of yourself, no more than two minutes long, talking about what this scholarship would mean to you and what you would do because of it.

(Tip: NO MORE than 2 minutes: at the 2:00 marker we will turn off the video. Videos don’t have to be highly edited; we want to get to know you and understand why this would help you. Your dogs are lovely and I am sure the old footage of you learning to ride is epic, but talk from your heart. Be real so we can get to see what's going on and understand why you're applying. )

2) Email proof (email, screenshot or written letter of substantiation) that you have donated (any amount) to a horse-related or horse serving 501c3 non-profit organization any time from the date of your scholarship application until the closing of applications. If you're having trouble collecting or sending this, please email us for assistance: we are happy to help.

TEAM Applicants:

1) EACH member of the team must write an essay or make a video per the instructions above. Given the culture of a team we suggest making 1 longer document that interweaves the stories of the team as a whole. Remember to stay inside the guideline of no more than 350 words per team member, so a total of 1050 words for a 3 member team, or 1400 words for a 4 member team. Same thing with videos, 2 mins per person multiplied by the number of team members is the max.

2) EACH member of the team must submit proof of a charitable donation, as described above. It must be in the team member's name*.

*The exception is children under the age of 18, their parents can make a donation for them.

That's it! We are counting on your own ability to tell your story and make a donation to pay forward your own good fortune to be able to apply for the Makeover.
And now the rules...

1) You must complete your full Thoroughbred Makeover application (including full application payment) to be considered as a trainer for the 2020 Makeover competition and you agree to compete under and follow all rules of the Makeover.

2) Your ability to win the scholarship is contingent on your being accepted to the Makeover.

3) If you win this scholarship, your paid $300 entry fee will be refunded from the Retired Racehorse Project organization.

4) You are responsible for all other costs incurred with the Makeover: stabling, declaration fees, schooling fees, and so on.

5) The Give Back to Go Scholarship is in no way responsible for any persons being selected as trainers to the Makeover. Our scholarship is an independent entity.

6) Applications will open January 1, 2020 and will close on February 24th, 2020 at 11:59pm EST.

7) The winner will be announced on or around March 15, 2020.

8) Selection process: the initial applications will be read and considered by a committee of previous Thoroughbred Makeover competitors, who will narrow the pool to a final group. The final group will be considered by a group of equine celebrity judges. This judging panel will be announced in the future.

9) Anyone not complying with the RRP Code of Conduct will be eliminated without the ability to appeal. Anyone found to have falsified their donation documentation, submitted as part of the scholarship application, will likewise be eliminated from consideration. We reserve the right to make contact to verify the donations used as eligibility for this scholarship.

10) We reserve the right to use your provided videos, pictures and written submissions in any type of scholarship promotion or press. As a result of this we ask that you only provide non-copyrighted images/videos or images/videos that you have permission for personal use of.

11) We encourage everyone to share this information to all who may be worthy but may need a hand in following their dreams.
